    what steps are required to transfer a gun from a deceased relative to myself?

    If it is a long gun, simply take possession of it. If it is a handgun and the deceased is not a spouse, parent, grandparent, child or grandchild, you will need to transfer the firearm through a FFL.

    If for example your uncle died, your aunt can assume possession without any paperwork, then she can transfer it to you using a FFL.
