    Default NFA Age?

I'm 19, going to be 20 in December. I read an old thread ( http://www.pafoa.org/forum/nfa-class...wn-page-2.html ) about someone who was 20, and wanted to make a suppressor. I'm looking to have an SBR made from a part kit and a flat ( http://www.pafoa.org/forum/nfa-class...parts-kit.html ), and AFAIK, to have an SBR, I need to be 21. However, if its made into a Pistol config, my dad can do the transfer and give it to me for my "Bday".

Is it 18 or 21 to have an SBR made and transferred to me?

the conclusion appears to be...you need to be 21 to buy from a DEALER.

    to MAKE a SBS/SBR/AOW/Suppressor, its 18.

under 21 can MAKE, and transfer from another owner, but can't buy anything from a dealer until 21.

    that should cover it.

If you are having it made, you have to be 21 to receive it. If you go the pistol route, and put it in your Dad's name, it cannot be transferred to you until you are 21 also. You can use it when it's in your Dad's name, but technically he should be with you.

I was under the impression that Pistols could be transferred legally form father to son over 18 without any paperwork.

you are correct, Handguns may be legally transferred without FFL or Sheriffs Dept approval between Married Spouses, Parents and children, and Grandparent to grandchild, provided that the recipient is at least 18 years of age, and not a prohibited person.
