Michaux St. Forest Range
I just sent in an email to the Michaux St. Forest office about my concern with the backstops there. I just wanted to know their plan of rebuilding. I am sure if they get enough complaints, they may do something about them. So if anyone else wants to send in an email to try to help the range out, here is the link.

Re: Michaux St. Forest Range
Here is the email I received back from the state forest:
Last year we had three or four people who volunteered at the shooting range. Because of their diligence, the facility was generally in very good condition. The last volunteer stopped working on the facility on April 20, 2007. We will attempt to keep the range open as best we can, however, without volunteer assistance we do not have sufficient staff to dedicate to this project.
We are fully aware about the condition of the rifle range. We hoped to be able to develop a new pistol range because people were putting targets on the pistol backstop and shooting them with high power rifles, causing severe damage to the backstop.
Without responsible people monitoring the facility we fully expect to see more vandalism to the shooting benches and more trash on the range.
We intend to have a credible recreational facility or we will close the range rather than allow it to become what it was two years ago with people shooting randomly at the shooting benches and signs. Some people were hauling in computers and trash for targets.----------

Re: Michaux St. Forest Range
I have responded to the email above questioning the role of a "volunteer". I wouldn't mind volunteering to help keep the place clean or helping to rebuild backstops, but they can't have someone there all the time. Its the few disrespectful people ruining it for everyone.

Re: Michaux St. Forest Range
I am new to this site so if I make a mistake please dont yell> I was at the range yesterday and the ranger said the back stops will be fixed. He also said that he was down two people so things were backing up. Their time was spent fixing up the roads. When that's finished they will start on the new pistol range. they have everything to fix the back stops.

Re: Michaux St. Forest Range
Well I was up at the range on Saturday and there was enough room to hang one target. That place is falling apart in a hurry. Hopefully something will be done soon.

Re: Michaux St. Forest Range
The think that pisses me off is I see the shooting benches down there with holes in them and the caution sign in the handicapped parking lot is all shot up. I just can't understand why one person has to ruin it for everyone. I am just going to have to buck up and join a club so that I have a nice place to shoot.
