Default How do I get back seized guns?

I had some guns seized by the PPD over 10 years ago. Any ideas on if and how I could get them back? Some people tell me they are destroyed and other people tell me that Philly keeps them stored indefinitely in some huge room at City Hall. If you need more details, I'd be happy to share.

I'm trying to find out the case number but no luck yet.

    Especially not in Philly.

Can you tell us why the guns were seized and did they give you receipts?

In some parts of the state it could be a DIY job, but considering Philly is involved - anything dealing with the police or other legal matters will end up needing an attorney.

After 10 years, I'd find it very likely those guns may no longer be in police custody. And very likely they were sold, destroyed, or lost by them. If so, and they weren't part of some crime or part of a conviction, you'd probably need to sue for compensation - which, an attorney would be best to handle.

Why would you wait over 10 years?

    Sure thing.

I don't remember exactly what year it was but i think 2000. My folks and I ran a corner store at 11th and Green Sts. We had trouble with some drug dealers in our neighboorhood and I testified in a trial against one (I was attending Temple U. at the time and commuting from home)

2 Months after the trial where I testified vs. one of the drug dealers, I was arrested in my house for attempted murder. Hello Philly SWAT!! The police had a search warrant for my house and business. (I lived above my corner store) The took a few items of interest to them and 2 guns, a Sig P229 and a Taurus .38 snubbie.
After my case was dismissed (turns out the other drug dealers paid a crack head to say I shot at him )I never got my property back. My dad had a lawyer expunge my record so now I can't seem to find out my case number or anything.

    Ideas? Thoughts?

I will take it up with counsel then.

I wasn't really into guns when I was at college. I just studied my face off and helped my folks with the business. The property that was taken was my dads. It was his .38 and the Sig was my first gun that he bought me. We had planned to go to Colosimo's once a week as a father/son type thing but it never happened after the arrest. I really wish I had stayed on top of this then but I was a sophmore and all i really cared about was family, girls and getting good grades y'know?

I'm not trying to discourage your efforts, or minimize the sentimental value of the guns that were taken, but you do realize that it will cost you FAR more to go down this road than it would to simply purchase replacements.
