9mm 115 Grain VS 9mm 147 Grain for 3" Barrel
I just bought my first concealed handgun. I went with the Springfield XD 3" Sub-Compact 9mm (13+1 & 15+1). So, I also picked up some ammo. I got the last box of American Eagle 115 Grain FMJ 9mm (50 per box). I also picked up 4 boxes of American Eagle 147 Grain FMJ Flat Point 9mm (50 per box).
My question is this: How big of a difference will the 147 Grain be compared to the 115 Grain? Less accuracy? Shorter distance? More recoil?Last edited by iMoses14; August 5th, 2009 at 12:16 AM.

I'm very interested to see the answers of thegroup as well. I have a couple short barreled 9mm's and I still trying to settle on a carry ammo.

Re: 9mm 115 Grain VS 9mm 147 Grain for 3" Barrel
I load the 147 in my .38 Super and like it so I tried some in my 9MM. Very nice. Just a bit more kick but for SD under 25 yards they are great. The point of aim at 25 yards is the same as with a 124gr but drops after that. The effect on a gallon jug of water is something to see.

So, 147 grain is still good for target practice for under 25 yards? That's my main concern. I figured I'd use the 147 grain for target practice so I'm use to a heavy grain for when I carry 124 grain HPs.
