    Default Phantom Flash hider?

I just picked up a YHM phantom flash hider and when I put it on the big piece without cut outs is not directly on the bottom where it's supposed to be. Sorry I don't know how to explain this any better. I know it is supposed to be directly on the bottom so it won't kick up dirt/dust, but it's tilted off to the side. I'm planning on having the barrel cut down to 14.5 and have it welded on anyway so the gunsmith could probably make sure it fits with the big piece on the bottom but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?

I could post pics if that would help you understand what I'm talking about but I don't have any ATM.

You need a crush washer or peel washer to properly line it up.

Do you have a crush washer? That is how to adjust. Place the crush washer on first, then tighten until the flash hider is positioned correctly. The washer will "crush" to allow the proper alignment.

it came with a washer but when i tighten it to the point where it gets sturdy the bottom piece is already a little past where it should be, i don't know if it's a crush washer or not as i did not tighten it completely, but even so it would still be offset from directly on the bottom.

Depending on the firearm, you may need more than one crush washer, off set from one another.

More info like which type of firearm would be helpful.

I have a YHM Phantom on a PLR-16 and it needed two washers to line up right.

It's on a Rock River LAR-15 .223/5.56 16" heavy barrel. Could I just pick up one or two of these crush washers at like a hardware store or would I need to order one specifically for an AR-15? The washer that was with the A2 birdcage flash hider did not work either.

I doubt you would find a crush washer at a hardware store. They more of a specialty item. You could try using both washers you have... one from the phantom and one from the A2.

Here is one here... but they are out of stock. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1...t/CRUSH_WASHER

Midway has one from Yankee Hill.. oops, thats for an AR-10

^^^ thanks for that info, do you know if I would need one if I'm planning on having it welded on? I mean, would it even need to be re-threaded or not so the gunsmith could just slide it on and weld it into the correct position?

I believe since the brake is threaded, so need to have the barrel threaded as well. I know they make slipon/pin on ones, but they most likely dont have threads inside of them so they are alittle more "adjustable"

A crush washer will allow one full rotation worth of alignment torque.
Order a new one (your existing one is already crushed to some unknown degree)
    and torque to proper alignment.
