"It appears to be an accident with a flair of stupidity," he said.

I was reading about it yesterday and then read the comments. Was curious about the military aspect of it. Hmmm
Courage is not the absence of fear but the mastery of it

Re: "accident with a flair of stupidity" in York County
I've been informed that he is in fact a member here, & the branch of service is Marines (he recruited a coworker's daughter but I wasn't sure of the branch)
Since he's one of us, I'll let him comment further if he wants to... but I hope he does because I'd love to know more details from the source rather than the newspaper. I've read many of his posts & he seems to be one with a good head on his shoulders, which makes me even more curious to know the details.
BTW close to 20 years ago my cousin almost shot me &/or himself at the range with a ND while he was home on leave...the round went into the ground between our feet... he was an instructor on the range at Paris Island at the time. So don't feel bad...you aren't the first Marine to ND or ADLet us never forget the sacrifice of those who have fought for us all.

Re: "accident with a flair of stupidity" in York County
All I know is if he comes on here and tells his story I'll rep him for having the fortitude to do so. I doubt many of us can claim we've never had a brain fart. I'm pleased to say mine was many years ago and I didn't discharge the weapon....it was loaded when I unpacked it in front of an RO, one round in the chamber with an empty mag. I'll never forget the look I was given, nor the lesson it imparted upon me. This is my primary reason for appreciating ROs and don't mind being watched....within reason. Hope you have a speedy recovery Marine, but ya do have some well earned razzing coming your way.

Re: "accident with a flair of stupidity" in York County
Gun accidents do happen to military folk. My sisters friend was sent to Afghanistan a couple years ago.
Two days after he got there he was cleaning his M9. He didn't check to make sure it was unloaded.
He fired it unintentionally and shot his best friend in the hand. His friend was in Germany soon after.
The guy spent a handful of days in Afghanistan only to get shot in the hand by his best friend.
As for admitting a stupid mistake like that, we're still dumbfounded my sisters boyfriend admitted where he was when he shot himself in the foot.

If it is who I think it is, he was posting on the forum literally within minutes of the time it was reported to have happened.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.
