Tourists in Lancaster
I stopped by Miller's Smorgasbord this evening with a friend to pick up a Shoo-Fly Pie to take with me to Virginia as a gift for an accompanist that my group is using for a concert on Tuesday. I get in there and there is a bus load of tourists perusing the bakery and gift shops. I look for a pie, but they do not have any out. Needing one desperately, I asked the clerk if they had any more. She said she could find out, but she was the only person there and needed to help get this bus load of people out the door. She asked if I could wait, so I did. We step off to the side and all the sudden I hear:
Tourist 1: "I don't think that is legal"
Tourist 2: "I don't know" (in a real low voice)
Makes me wish I had a flyer to hand out but alas I was unprepared. I did want to talk to them, but the conversation I was having with my friend was much more interesting.
One great thing about Lancaster is all of the tourists from New York and the PRNJ. I love seeing some of the reactions as they pull up behind me to fuel up and get a glimpse of my firearm.
Anyone else have a similar experience with tourists?
Unrelated story today in Wal-Mart, I ran into a buddy of mine near the checkout stand. I was talking to him while my other friend was finishing up his purchase. A lady gets in line just before I end my conversation. As I am saying good-bye, I wave and she gets a glimpse of my firearm and her eyes double in size. Always a fun experience.Active Citizen

Re: Tourists in Lancaster
What is the actual law for open-carry in PA?
Is it explicitly permitted, or is the issue just left open?

The search feature is your friend
Open Carry ON FOOT ONLY , is completely legal in PA without an LTCF , absent any other legal prohibitions ( i.e. criminal record , age , etc ) . Except for a " City of the First Class " Philly being the only one . In Philly , you MUST have an LTCF to carry Open OR Concealed , but if you go OC you'll most likely at some point meet some of the " Blue Suit Mafia " from over on DomeLights who like to brag about "bustin the little people" that dare to exercise their rights and challenge auth-or-it-tay !
Something really needs to be done about that whole " City Of the First Class " thing relating to Philly . I LOVE Philly , my Dad was born and raised in Kensington back in the 40's and 50's , he worked at Colosemo's Gun Shop during the 60's , and my wife grew up around Kensington in the late 70's and early 80's before it went to shit . It really bothers me how shitted up the birth place of our entire Country has become . But it really is disgusting anymore , both in attitude and appearance . Its been a long time since Philly deserved to be called a " First Class City "Si vis pacem, para bellum

Re: Tourists in Lancaster
I've bugged out the eyes of several from NJ at the restaurants in DuBois. Seems like anytime I go there to eat there is some NJ or NY couple that gets sat beside me or follows me in.
The hush-hush whispering is usually kinda funny, and the deer-in-headlights looks is hard not to chuckle over. I usually lean towards them and ask "Are you ok, do you need me to call 911?", or I'll say "Top of tha morn'n/even'n" to ya!", or some other thing that typical gets a laugh out of them. Most will ask if "that" is legal to carry or to carry out in the open, which then nearly every one of them relaxes after being informed.
The funniest event was at the Maxwell Street eatery. My ex-fiance/best friend worked there and the owners were really cool about me carrying. A couple, from upper NJ or NY(going by their accent) had walked in while I was in line. I turned to talk to my ex as she was cooking which brought my gun to bear, the man went into a stuttering fit trying to say "gun". It was "ga,, ga,, ga,,, gaa,,,, gun!" lol His woman look at it, looked at me, then said to her man "oh grow a set will ya".
