    Default new member has questions.

Hi, Im new to the site and what a great site it is. My question is, i moved to the Philly area 9 months ago. While living in NJ, i had an expungement done 2 years ago. Since moving to Philly , I have purchased 2 pistols. Both times i went into research and i had to wait a day or so but was approved. My recent purchase has been in research for almost 2 weeks. Is this normal? Can i expect this type of action every time i make a purchase? And why is this one taking so long? Thanks for any help.

Hi, and welcome to the forums. You will find a wealth of valuable information from the members here. Enjoy your stay!

Now, to answer your question, after running the PICS check, the resulting investigation can take up to 15 days (click here for the PSP website with this information).

In my limited experience - and what I have heard - normally the check is completed one way or another right then, with it normally only taking a day or two at the most. What may be making this more complicated for you is that you not only have an expungement, but one from out of state. Added to the confusion is that sometimes there are others with similar names/ID that take additional time to sort out.

I'm sure others will chime in, but yes, that does seem like a very long time. I've never had a PICS check take more than 10 min though.

if this continues, it may be worth your time to get the Unique ID #....

I was told by my local gs that there was no such thing as a unique or special pin #.Is it possible to call pics and see what the holdup is? or is this a nono?

    Yeah there is..

On denial reversals it is at the top of the reversal letter. And you can apply for one at NICS. Since PICS uses NICS(and a few other databases), the Unique ID will work for a PICS flagging(at least for anything in the NICS database).

Thanks for the update. I am glad it ended up working out how you expected it eventually would, and I hope you don't have as long of a wait in the future.
