Default Soccer game shooing in wilmington, armed citizens fire back

Tried to search for this on the forum, didnt see any threads that picked this story up.

    http://www.newscow.net/breakingnow/2...a-soccer-game/

There isn't too much info out there in the stories available, but these seem to be what is known.

intended target- a witness to a murder 4 years ago, was killed
second victim- teen age boy, unintended target, was killed
3rd victim- 30something from maryland, shot in the shoulder, unintended target

3 suspects- one was shot by armed citizens in the soccer game crowd, and was killed

I'm very interested to hear more about this story, especially the sequence of the shooting. Hopefully the 3 victims were shot before the armed citizens in the crowd opened fire on the suspects. it would suck if the intended victim was shot and the shooters were heading out when armed citizens opened fire on the suspects, drawing the suspects to fire into the crowd, shooting the 2 other victims.

If any of y'all see more info on this please post it up.

One dead, four shot in wild shootout at Wilmington park
July 8, 2012 By John Mussoni

One person is dead and four others wounded after a shoot out at Wilmington's Eden park Sunday afternoon.

Police say the incident started when shots were fired in the park while attending an adult soccer game. Three people were wounded when the first shots rang out.

The shooting started just after 2:30 p.m. Captain Nancy Dietz, Wilmington Police, said a 16-year-old male from Pike Creek was shot in the head, a 47-year-old man from New Castle was shot in the chest, and a 34-year-old man from Baltimore was shot in the shoulder.

Police say one group started shooting at another and that group returned fire. Three people fled the scene traveling north on New Castle Avenue. Minutes later the car they were in crashed at C and New Castle.

Two of the men in the car fled the scene. The third man remained in the car. Police say when they arrived on the scene they found the man had been shot several times. He died after being taken to Christina Hospital. A 6th person was injured when a police K-9 dog tracked him down, and he was arrested. The third man suspect was found by police a short distance from the scene. He had also been wounded by the gun fire in the park.

Captain Dietz says the names of all of the victims are being withheld until more is done with the investigation. Police are hoping someone will come forward to help. If you know something, police ask you call 302-576-3647.

On Monday night, published reports quote witnesses saying the intended target was the other person who was killed - Herman Curry.

Curry was the founder of the Marcus Garvey Soccer Tournament. This was the 16th year for the growing event, which attracted Jamaican teams from Delaware, New York, New Jersey and Maryland.

Curry was the father of six. Family and friends are baffled as to why he was an apparent target for a trio of gunmen who suddenly attacked.

"That's probably the most mystifying part, because he was so well-loved by everyone," said family friend Dr. Alison Allen.

But those witnesses are quoted saying Curry was a witness to a murder four years ago, allegedly committed by one of the men who gunned him down yesterday.

That suspect is identified as 34-year-old Otis Phillips of New Castle.

Three dead in Wilmington soccer game shootings
July 9, 2012 By Mark Fowser

Two suspects are charged with the killings of Kamara and Curry.

34-year-old Otis Phillips of New Castle was arrested in a nearby vacant lot Sunday. He is charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, conspiracy and weapons offenses. Police say Phillips was also wanted for a January 2008 homicide in Wilmington on North Locust Street.

22-year-old Jeffrey Phillips of Wilmington is also under arrest for murder charges. He suffered a gunshot wound to the leg before being arrested by Wilmington Police.
