Default Question on Selling my Gun to a VA resident

Hey guys me and my one friend were wondering how this would work. I am a PA resident. My friend is a VA resident and goes to school in Philadelphia area. If I were to sell him one of my guns how would the process work. Would they ship my gun to a FFL in VA?. Also if we were in VA could we both walk into a gun shop and have the gun transfered there.

I'm not selling one of my guns but this is just a ? I'd love to know the answer too. How does a handgun transfer different from longgun.

    Thanks

Since you are residents of different states it falls under Federal laws, and the transfer has to go through an FFL. For a long gun, in any state. For a handgun, in the purchaser's state of residence. You could have it shipped or take it yourself to an FFL in VA to handle the transfer.

If his friend goes to school in Philly and lives here, wouldn't he have dual residency?

OP:Using an FFL in PA for firearms is a state law of sorts since you are forced to use PICS. (If both are PA residents)
I don't believe Federal law forces people in (some) other states to use an FFL for Intrastate Private sales.

(Correct me, not bash me if that is wrong)

I think there have been other threads here that address residency of college students. As for your other comment, it is correct. PA law requires an FFL/sheriff for handgun transfers except between specific family members. Many other states, Virginia among them, have no such requirement.
