Looking for more info on registered sex offender

Sorry if this is inappropriate for the forum, but I'm trying to get more info on registered sex offender convicted of sex with an 8 yo girl, and I know there's lots of folks with LE experience here.

He's from Long Island where he was convicted, but recently moved to Upper Black Eddy and opened a store in New Hope on my block. He's funny, charming and very friendly. The police informed his immediate neighbor of the prior conviction, and his alibi is that his wife named him as an offender in retaliation during the course of a bitter divorce, and he plea bargained...thus the 2nd degree.

Any way I can get to the truth? I just want to avoid him if it's true and have my kids avoid that part of the street.

Do people typically plead and get 2nd degree in divorce cases, is this a common tactic? If I call the Nassau County Sheriff's office or something like that, can they release case/trial details?

As far as plea bargaining, sure... it happens all the time.

1. A person is guilty of course of sexual conduct against a child in
the second degree when, over a period of time not less than three months
in duration:
(a) he or she engages in two or more acts of sexual conduct with a

(b) he or she, being eighteen years old or more, engages in two or
more acts of sexual conduct with a child less than thirteen years old.
2. A person may not be subsequently prosecuted for any other sexual
offense involving the same victim unless the other charged offense
occurred outside the time period charged under this section.
Course of sexual conduct against a child in the second degree is a
class D felony.

When was the offense? Is he still on parole/probation? Call your local Board of Probation and Parole Office - if he is still on, they can give you some info.

He's telling dudes I know that his wife said he sexually whatevered their own kid age 8, and that the wife initiated the action during a bitter divorce. He sez he pleaded to keep the kid off the stand and put it behind them.

He was convicted in 2001. Sentenced to 5 yrs probation, ended Feb 07. Offense: "Actual MoreThanOnce Sexual Contact" Relationship to Victim: Unknown, Weapon Used: Unknown, Force Used: Coercion. Nassau County Probation. Victim = female, 8 years

........Relationship to Victim: Unknown......

It's possible that this is the result of a lazy data entry clerk, but it seems unlikely that his story is consistent with the victim being his own daughter if the "relationship to victim" is "unknown".

Real pedophiles are usually pretty good at weaving convincing stories, from "your daddy sent me to pick you up" to "this is just a special way of showing my love". Sounds like he's lying about it being his own daughter.

In Pa, there is a site that you can use to look up docket sheets for any criminal offense. I also know that there is one in Md. Does New York have the same thing? If so, I'd start there. Just type in NY court docket into a search engine and see if anything pops up.

Maybe this is just me, but as a father I would fight bitterly if I were accused of this. An 8 year old would not have to take the stand necessarilly (sp?) with the alternate forms of questioning available now (cc TV and pre recorded sessions with a therapist and such). I don't know if he is innocent or guilty, but I would not plead if I were innocent. Add what GL said and you get too many questions for me to be comfortable with my kids around him. Just my $0.02.
