I've been looking at the Streamlight TLR-2. Laser plus tactical flashlight. And it mounts to the standard pistol rail.

I dont think anything can compete with the lasermax's.. they are a good $100 more than the grip lasers but are worth it to me. http://personalsecurityzone.com/cgi-...roductID=30318

Re: Good laser for my XD 45
+1! I have a universal rail laser on my XD 45 and don't like it because I can't find a holster that will accommodate it and it does not hold a zero well.
I got a Lasermax Guide Rod Laser for my XD .40 SC and it solves all of the problems I listed above.
One note on lasers: DON'T COUNT ON HAVING TIME TO TURN THEM ON WHEN YOU MOST NEED THEM!!!! If it is a house gun and you hear someone breaking in, you may have time, but on a carry gun you may only have seconds to engage the bad guy(s); you don't want to waste time fumbling for a laser switch. Unless you can train yourself to turn the thing on as a seamless part of your draw, you must train yourself to be proficient without the laser.

Re: Good laser for my XD 45
Sorry for getting a little off topic here, but as was pointed out about finding a holster to keep the rail accessory on. I have searched, and searched, and searched and yet to find one. What I may get though is a sure sight set if I dont send my XD into SA for a custom job w/night sights.

Also does lasermax's guide rod stick out like the stock one? That's actually a feature not marketed in america, it sticks out so the gun doesnt go out of battery if you have to actually stick it in someone to shoot I.E. Rolling on the ground.
