    Thumbs up Cabelas Hamburg

Had another pleasant experience today buying another handgun. Last week i was there and bought myself the M&P 40. I dealt with a gentleman named Russ, Excellent personality and very knowledgable. Well i liked the gun so much i went in today and bought the wife the M&P 9, again i dealt with Russ. Nothing but good things to say about my purchases there. Oh and i was there at opening (8:00) and was in and out in 40 minutes!!!

No, I tried to "gently" persuade her to get the compact but she likes the way the full size feels in her hand. (no pun intended)

Cabela's can't be beat for the selection of firearms on display. However, the prices on some of their handguns are just plain nuts. $617 for a Glock 26?!

I was in Cabela's a last weekend, just to see what they would offer me for a Beretta if I was to trade it in on another firearm. I told the greeter what I wanted and he asked "Do you have the weapon?!" I told him that yes I did, as it was my carry piece. I showed him where it was on my waist and drew it from the holster. The pistol was not loaded because I removed the magazine while I was in my truck and stuck it in my pocket.

He then proceeds to put a trigger lock on it, or I try I should say. After watching him struggle with it, I offered "I think you have it backwards". "I know what i'm doing!", he exclaims. He then tells me to follow him over to the office where they do the appraisals.

When we get to the office another gentleman asks me if I have the magazine for the gun. I tell him that I do and leave it at that. After waiting for about 15 minutes, he comes over to me and offers $300 for it. That's what I figured they would offer. I tell him that for that price, i'd rather just keep it. He tells me that I just need to let him know when i'm ready to leave, because he will need to escort me out of the store before handing over my pistol. I tell him that in that case, i'm ready to leave now.

He escorts me out, hands me the pistol and I walk out. However, I wasn't finished shopping yet. So I go around the corner of the building, out of sight of suspicious onlookers so I can re-insert my magazine and chamber a round. I then walk back into the store and go about my business.

What I find funny about this whole situation is that I was not allowed to have my firearm back while I was in the store, yet Cabela's has signs on the front doors stating that they respect a persons right to legally carry concealed or open inside of the store.

You can find good deals from time to time at Cabela's. I picked up a new Glock 26 there just before Christmas for $389. It was on sale for $509 and they had a coupon if you have a Cabela's Visa. For any purchase over $500 you go $100 off. Plus I had $20 in points on my Cabela's Visa.

+1 I'm with you on this. Their selection is great, but their prices are horrible. I suggest that anyone shopping there should find what they want and then go order it from their shop of choice. I was looking for a sig 229 a few weeks ago. cabelas had it for $975.00 I went to the handgunner in topton he had it for $750 (which is an awesome price) In the end i purchased a nice 229 elite from a member here.

I do not represent Cabela's in any way, but I suspect their rule is to minimize the number of people waving guns around as they holster and unholster them. I've been in that store more times than I can remember OC, and my gun has never cleared its holster. I have even purchased guns from them while OC, and have been escorted to the door with my new purchase.

This right here is full of FAIL!!!!!!

If you knew you were going to have it appraised, you should have chosen a different carry gun, and taken the Beretta in, per their policy.

Well, their prices can be nuts sometimes....other times just plain awesome!!
You have to be in the right place at the right time!

I've picked up an INOX Beretta 92 that was pre-owned but never fired for $399 ....CZ RAMI for just over $300 brand new and a Styer M40-A1 for just over $300 as well.

I was in two weeks ago & they had a Kimber Pro Carry 1911 in .45 back in the fine gun room for $525!!!!! Someone got a great deal on that.

Ammo can be hit or miss....a guy behind me today had a ammo container of .380 with 300 rounds for $109.

I've been going up and buying 7.62x39 wolfe that is on clearance for $4.49/20 everytime I get paid. I can't get it that cheap online...

Tell me what part of the policy prohibits a person from removing their carry gun inside of the store for the purpose of appraisal.
If a customer brings a firearm on Cabela’s property for purposes of repair, appraisal, evaluation, sale or any other purpose that will require the customer or someone else to handle the firearm or remove the firearm from a holster, the firearm must be checked in with store personnel, safely unloaded and fitted with a trigger lock.
I didn't have a problem with the fact that they needed to place a trigger guard on my firearm. What I found funny was that I needed to be escorted to the door to regain possession of my firearm.

I'll tell you where you can shove your "fail".
