They look brand new and unissued. Any have a guess on the model / county of origin?

Which begs the question. What is the US Coast Guard doing patrolling the coast of Yemen? Who is paying for it?

    Not the USCG.

Well, it says U.S. Coast Guard personnel. What's the difference? Heck, it is US Navy. In my book, they are the same in what they are doing.

The US Coast Guard has a Law Enforcement group that is trained and equipped to conduct ship boardings. They are routinely on US Navy ships in the gulf to conduct boardings. You may had seen the video of the CG boarding Petty Officer on the drug submarine banging on the hatch yelling in Spanish for them to stop and open the hatch.

I was on boarding parties searching foreign fishing vessels in the Bering Sea. The boarding parties are much better equipped now. Also Coast Guard Cutters have been with the Navy fleets in the gulf for years.

It was a Navy ship, but US Coast Guard boarded the ship. I have never heard of US Coast Guard personnel serving on USN ships.

Interesting that nobody was charged or even detained. The couriers of the weapons probably won't be unpunished though.

Before WWII USCG personnel served on many Navy ships and Navy personnel served on CG ships. During WWII some Navy ships (never big gun ships) were manned entirely by USCG crews. Many supply and LST's had entire CG crews. CG boat coxswains manned the landing craft from the LST's on every landing the US Army and Marines made. CG ships normally have less crewmembers than the same size Navy ships so we did more at sea watches. 16. hour workdays were the norm. I remember we were in Norfolk VA. Navy base where most of our crew was at firefighting school. Five of us had to prepare a 40 foot weather bouy for deployment. We were dragging anchor chain shots (10 foot sections) across the deck to be welded together including our Chief Bowswain Mate pulling with the rest of us. I noticed about a hundred Navy guys standing on the dock watching us like were a side show. Later I asked one of the Navy guys what was so interesting . He said 'we ain't never seen a Chief work before". Maybe that its why the Navy stoped manning CG ships......
