Disapointed in the LACK of knowledgable State Police
I had to make a trip to the local barracks to show my truck got inspected (forgot, and got a warning). I am in the process of building a SBR (paperwork is at the ATF now) And I am 99% sure it will be legal to carry concealed or more importantly loaded in my vehicle while i drive. I wanted to double check this with the officer at the time. So I ask. He shoots back at me that any gun or shot gun under a certain barrel length is illegal in PA. At this point I tried to politely point out that he was wrong, and he started going into a rant about how this isnt up for argument and that its the LAW. At that point I just said ok and left quietly, as I did not want to get into anymore of this nonsense with him as I had an AK pistol , AR-10, AR15, 1 silencer and 2 pistols in the car. (on my way home from the range)
WELL NEWS FLASH DUMBASS....ITS NOT THE LAW YOU UNEDUCATED CAVEMAN.
Dont get me wrong. If the officer would have told me he did not know if it was legal or not I would have no qualms at all. After all nobody can know EVERY LAW. But to misinform people like that is just ridiculous, and then to begin ranting and almost yelling at me about how he knows pennsylvania law. Worse yet, say im driving in a few months when my paperwork is approved and get stopped for speeding and he arrests me for carrying my "illegal" sawed off shotgun or SBR.
I just needed to vent
Frustrated

Go back with the law in hand to his supervisor and complain that George of the Jungle was rude to YOU. And ask to talk with him with the super.

I'd let it go, you can't educate every uninformed jackass who's militantly ignorant.
This is why I tell my clients to carry their paperwork with them everywhere they take their NFA toys, and why we put such effort into the LLC Operating Agreements that back up their lawful possession.
Your typical street cop will say that he's sure about things even if he's just bullshitting you, but if he tells you that your gun is illegal, and you show him your B&W photocopy of your approved Form 4, plus your 6-pages of legalese Operating Agreement, he's likely going to back down and tell you that he'll "let you off with a warning this time". Which is fine, as long as he goes away, you don't have to make him agree that you were right and he was wrong.
I know a few really smart and dedicated cops and PSP staff. But a lot of cops have the egos of fighter pilots, without the skill set.Attorney Phil Kline, AKA gunlawyer001@gmail.com

Happened to me. The PSP did not know what he was talking about.
I had my paperwork with me, including the LLC and operating agreement prepared by Phil Kline, Esq. (heavily edited by Me with a couple phone calls to the lawyer :| ) PSP spent a lot of time on the phone but I went home for dinner Best money I spent was with Mr. Kline.Last edited by ungawa; August 8th, 2009 at 07:59 PM.

Never, and I repeat, never ask a LEO what is legal or not. Most dont know at all, and the few that do are members here.

I have a notebook in my vehicle with print outs in sheet protectors of the UFA, the MPOETC training update, Hawkins, Ortiz, a flier, maybe some other stuff I can't remember. I would have gotten it out of the trailblazer and showed him.
If you don't know who your state legislators are go here:

put your zip plus 4 in the box in the upper right hand corner.

Re: Disapointed in the LACK of knowledgable State Police
So you talked to ONE Trooper out of 4000, and since he was wrong, you feel qualified to make the judgement that there is a lack of knowledgable state police out there?
