What the heck is legal in California?
This is a serious question. I'm looking through the latest flier from SOG and, as usual, they have guns marked as either "CA OK" or "Not for sale in California." What struck me is that there doesn't seem to be consistency or maybe I just don't know the rules.
For example, all of the NAA mini-revolvers are banned not OK for California except for the .22 Mag with a 1 1/8 inch barrel.
In the derringer realm, the .38 Spl with a 3" barrel is ok but the .38 Spl wiht the 3 3/4" barrel is not.
The Rock Island 1911 in .45 ACP is OK but a similar 1911 from CAI is not.
Rossi revolvers ins .38 and .357 seem to be OK but an S&W Model 10 is not.

Re: What the heck is legal in California?
If you are planning a visit, check Calguns.net
There is some disagreement about some of their laws, such as having a cased handgun not going to and from the range. Because apparently there is more than one law that covers this, but most people say there isn't. The confusion doesn't end there, as you have already found. So don't take the first answer or cite you get, use it as a guide to get started.

No visits planned, just idle curiosity.

Re: What the heck is legal in California?
All handguns for sale in California have to be approved by California, which involves the manufacturer donating a handgun to them. An all-black whatever (pick your make and model) is not considered the same as a black and chrome whatever. Thus, out of two whatevers, identical except for the color, one is California OK and the other isn't - because the manufacturer didn't send both versions.
Not all manufacturer's donate handguns to California - some refuse. Those handguns are, surprise, not California OK.
Make sense?

Re: What the heck is legal in California?
If you go here: http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/ it will show you what all HANDGUNS are allowed into the state.
However, because of an exemption, ALL Single Action revolvers are allowed into the state. That said, DO NOT try what some have tried, and that is to remove the parts that makes a DA revolver a DA revolver and try to call it a single action. That can get you or the receipient jail time.
For long arms, the above site will probably be a good jumping off point to do that search, but I know the long arms deal with magazines (detachable or not), capacity, etc.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Re: What the heck is legal in California?
Thanks for the link.
Handgun models will be removed from the roster on the list expiration date unless the manufacturer renews the listing prior to the list expiration date.

Medicinal marijuana. So you can get high and forget about how shitty your state it. Also forget about how everything seems to cause cancer in that state.

from the Ca DOJ web site
" Private party transfers, curio/relic handguns, certain single-action revolvers, and pawn/consignment returns are exempt from this requirement."
