Rifled slug barrel question
Hey, one of my pop's friends was asking about shooting sluggers or reinekes (not sure if I spelled reinekes right) through his shotgun that has a rifled barrel. We don't think it would hurt the rifling but just wanted to get some input. Thanks

Re: Rifled slug barrel question
I'm guessing Brenneke slugs. I've done it with no problems. They work well in smoothbores too!

This chart will tell you whether slug or sabot can be used in each type of barrel. I've been using the 2 3/4" K.O. Slugs in each type of barrel with good results.

Re: Rifled slug barrel question
If you have a RIFLED bbl, you should shoot saboted slugs. Rifled slugs are for the smoothbores.

Never heard of Reinekes, might be a brand name like winchester or some thing...

A couple of links to slugs and their uses.Skeet is a sport where you are better to hit half of each bird then completely blast one and miss the other completely.

Re: Rifled slug barrel question
From another site.
Hunters using a smooth bore barrel will be best served by conventional (Foster style) slugs, sometimes referred to as “rifled slugs.” Firing a rifled slug through a rifled barrel will result in the rifling of the barrel and the rifling on the slug working against each other. This action will quickly foul the rifling on the inside of your barrel adversely effecting accuracy. We suggest that you do not fire rifled slugs through a rifled barrel.

Re: Rifled slug barrel question
They won't harm the barrel, but may cause leading and will not be nearly as accurate as a good sabot slug.
