    Default Hmmmm, funny....

So, I am reading my kid's "Student Handbook", and got a good chuckle. Mixed into the list of UNexcused absences along with part time job, babysitting, vacation, etc....is HUNTING and FISHING. I don't know many kids that are in a PA school on the first day of deer season

Hunting isn't as big as it once was. mars was always surrounded by farms and woods, now the district has grown 5 times as large and most of the new kids are from large "planned communities" that reek of yuppieness. You can't throw a rock around here anymore without denting a cadilliac S.U.V or a new Volvo. Alot of places we used to hunt are now housing plans or shopping centers. There is nowhere to hunt, and these yuppies think of hunters as "stupid fudds" anyway. To them we're just a bunch of nuckle dragging, small dicked, stupid rednecks.

I hate what my town has become.

In many counties, particularly in southern WV, the schools are closed on the opening day of deer season.

Apparently over the years absenteeism was so profound the school boards just decided to close schools for that day.

Who sez we ain't got smarts down here?

It may still be like that in my town (for now.)

Yuppieness is slowly taking over and hunting is dying. When I was in college they also cancled classes on opening day. Rifle, turkey, and archery

When I was young, you were expected to be out the first day of deer. We also watched the world series in school.

Well, I get the last laugh on the school because for every unexcused absence, there is a fictitious, excused reason on the excuse slip! LOL

Gotta teach your kids how to handle "The Man" early on!

When I was a kid, we had the first day of buck season off.

On the second day, all able bodied males were stricken with a mysterious "illness". (Getting up at 4am, and carrying a rifle through the woods seemed to ease the symptoms)

On the third day, there was a line out the door of the school, of these "suddenly cured" males, waiting to turn in their excuse slips from parents like Rocketfoot above.

I'll have to inquire if it still works that way today.
(This was not in Pittsburgh, BTW)

yeah Monday after thanksgiving is an 'In service day" which means teachers had to be in but students did... the cool teachers weren't there either :P

Tuesday was for when all the successful kids went to school since their buck tags were filled and the doe season wasn't open yet (when there was a 3 day season)... good times
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

That stinks. At Pleasant Valley students and staff are off that Monday, always have been. When I hauled for BASF/DiversetWyandotte we always had off Deer Day.
