Mauser Mod. 98
well my father has finally gotten the trust and given me the Mauser that was handed down to him. this rifle is as far as i can tell made in Oberndorf am Neckar, 1944. the bore is clean as a whistle, and everything is in great shape for the age of the rifle. every single number i can find matches, even the sling, and bayonet+sheath. all German markings are there too.
going to have the gunsmith give it a once over to see if it is still in shootable condition because according to my father the last time it was shot was about 32 years ago, and only had 7 rounds thru it. ive got that box of ammo still. Remington soft point 8mm rounds. the rounds have always been kept in the original box, and in an ammo can so id hope they are still good to shoot, they look fine to me. im really looking forward to seeing how it shoots if i get the OK.
not the best of pictures but good enough for now.

Sweet Mauser! I'd love to get one of those.
Looks like you're going to have to change your signature.

Very nice. I still regret not buying one of the Turkish Mausers they were selling for $60 a few years back. Had I been smart I woulda picked up a pair of them and as much ammo as I could find. Way back when 8mm Mauser ammo was $30 for 700 rounds.

Re: Mauser Mod. 98
i took out the Mauser to Sunset Hill yesterday and i must say, with the soft point rounds i had, it is a very effective log splitter. hopefully the weather will hold today and ill see if my old man wants to give it a go up at the SGL in Pike.
