    Default Remington UMC Ammo?

in another thread, two guys mentioned having issues with remington UMC ammo.

this suprised me as i have shot somewhere around 10,000 rounds of it without any problems at all.

so, i'm curious what other people's experiences are...if you have shot remington UMC, how did it work for you?

Shot plenty of .38/130 Gr.without any problems. A little dirty, but that's about it. I have a few hundred on hand and then I'll be switching to Winchester for about 2000 rds.

My dog "Ruger" is worried about the economy because Alpo is up to $3.00 a can. That's almost $21.00 in dog money.

How about your firing schedule vs. total round count. How many rounds in what timeframe?

I had maybe 5 FTE's in the first 100 rounds I shot through my PT111 Millenium Pro, but haven't put anymore through it. I had no problems at all with my Keltec P3AT or SW380 and my wife Bersa. This was the stuff in the green and white box. Is that stuff the same as the yellow and black box?

I never had a problem, and I shot plenty of it.

I don't use it and never have, however I have seen quite a few guns come in jambed because of it. They were ALL handguns and the manufacturers involved are too numerous to list. I have even had 2 different talks with the Remington rep over the problem. The problem has been limited to 9mm FMJ,40S&W FMJ, 45ACP FMJ and 357mag lead heads. The problem everytime was a lack of a good crimp on the bullet.

The 357mag. all had the problem of the bullet coming loose and moving far enough out of the cyclinder to jamb the cylinder. The problems with the others were slides jambing when almost into full battery. Same problem on all, When I mic'd the cartridge that was jambed, it would be a few thousanths too big right at the case mouth. I never checked the chamber size in the firearms but they could have had slightly tighter chambers to boot. I never found an entire box out of spec but rather a couple rounds in the box. It does seem that quality control is laxed a little bit on the UMC ammo.

I do want to point out that I have NEVER seen a firearm damaged by it but rather just jambed and easy to fix. It is fine for a paper killer but I would not trust my life to it.

I shoot the Rem jhp .40 rounds a lot. They're just about as dirty as WWB. I've found the Rem rounds to have the brightest muzzle flash. Anyone else noticed this?
