Post something intelligent and don't be a complete douche and people will give you positive rep. Post ignorant nonsense and be a troll and people will give you negative rep. Pretty simple. I say ignorant nonsense only because humorous nonsense also sometimes gets you positive rep. Oh, and you have to be the popular kid in school too.

Green means you are good to go and have received positive rep. The zero will remain until you reach 50 posts at which point your rep will be displayed.

Relax, rep is nothing more than the equivalent of a man's E-penis size. It really just means that you have educated, well-spoken points, you are helpful or funny.

As others mentioned, when in disagreement, avoid personal attacks at all costs. If you disagree, start with, "In my opinion.." or "I believe that.." Don't be the dumbass that tries to ask the stupid baiting questions like "Oh so according to you, do you believe..." It's just a childish tactic that is not conducive to civil discussion which makes us all more well versed as a community.

Remember, the end game here is to be politically on the offensive, not to just sit back cocked and locked after we let things go too far. We also want to share experiences, learn from the good and bad and get more people on our side. Avoid bigotry, and generalities! As an example, the LAPD cops that shot the truck recently. Is that every cop in the LAPD or even every cop in the nation? No... focus on the facts that those involved should be jailed. If you start with "Cops suck" it will turn into a crapstorm.

Say something insightful, funny, or helpful. Defend those that need defended, and sometimes say what isn't popular, but still needs to be said. Offer good advice and and discuss even the most heated topics with a level head sticking to the facts.
