Default Help me build my AR-15 shopping list...

So, here goes, minus a lower which I am still searching for in pre-ban for NY I'm starting to look at the following. Going to be taking a tactical carbine course and I don't want to show up looking bad so...here's what I was thinking:

    Stag Arms Upper:
Stag-15 Model 2HT (this one has the tactical rail, I'm pretty sure I want that instead of the Stag-15 Model 1H with the hand guard). It's more $$ but I feel like it will be more fun for accessories etc.

    Grip:
I really want to try the Magpul grip, so:

    Stock:
    Again a Magpul:

    Optics:
I want a reflex sight of some sort, was thinking maybe an Eo Tech of some sort...but I am lost model to model. Maybe this:
    http://www.del-ton.com/EoTech_Sight_557_p/op1019.htm
but it is a little on the $$$ side so... I dunno.

Otherwise I am shopping a bunch of lowers and am told that they are all the same as long as it isn't damaged. I expect having to refinish it and so might as well replace everything when I strip it to get painted, yes? So help me out with a rebuild kit maybe? I see Stag offers one for $65 when you buy an upper from that website.

    Thanks!

If the pins and such in the lower are not falling out and operating fine I wouldn't touch them.

The EoTech you listed is NV compatible with a BDC for .223 (calibrated for 1 load from 1 barrel length....useless if you ask me.) If you don't have NV...get the 512, and run it with Lithium AA bats.

Use that money to buy a better upper, BCG, and rail system.

Just what I'd do. Don't forget a BUIS rear, a QD mount for that Eotech, a good sling, and plenty of PMags.

the concern is that whatever I get will be pre-ban and probly not black, and maybe a little beat up. It would have to be disassembled to be refinished...so...while it is apart, why not replace 15 yr old hardware?

regarding the EOTech. i love my EOTech, i highly recommend them.

but, you don't need the 557 unless you are going to use it with night vision equipment.

go for the 512. it's basically the same model but without the night vision compatability and it is a good bit cheaper.

regarding the LPK (lower parts kit...what you need to rebuild a lower), i like stag's kits just fine. a lot of people like RRA (rock river arms) kits.

    nice list, btw.

Well for that price I guess I could go to the LMT website and build myself an upper with them...someone is going to have to explain the BCG options they offer to me though.

Edit: So I'm back looking at the LMT Uppers...its $792 without a handguard and the Enhanced BCG in F/A...do I need F/A, not S/A? Anyway, I could do that if its worth it. Thoughts?

    Get the full-auto bolt.

It weights more, so it slows the extraction down some (good thing).
Essentially, the carbine length guns try to extract the cartridge earlier than the rifle length guns do (gas hits the carrier sooner). This is why the carbine buffer weights more, and there are "extractor upgrades" for carbines (extra tension, to overcome early extraction.) The M16 carrier weights more, and thus, gives the cartridge more time to shrink before it moves and attempts extraction...making the gun somewhat more reliable.

LMT puts out good parts. I'd buy from them or Colt.
