Waterproofness test...
Hey all, I was thinking about doing some tests on the waterproofness of cartridges I reload/ factory stuff. I figure I will submerge shells in a tub of water for a duration of 1 day to 7 days then see if the shoot. Any suggestions before I start?

I'd be afraid to mess with this type of testing at all. I'd be concerned that if the primer fires and the powder doesn't, you'd end up with a bullet halfway down your barrel. Some funny things can happen that might be dangerous to you and/or your gun.

Re: Waterproofness test...
That is a good point, I never thought of that...That kind of sucks I was looking forward to seeing the results. Anyone ever hear results of a test like this? I'm sure the army has done tests like this?

Re: Waterproofness test...
why would you ever need your rounds to be that wet?
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: Waterproofness test...
If I were to submerge the gun and ammo at the same time...then that would be two variables? I am confident the gun could withstand the water time (AR-15) but I don't know about the ammo. I will do some research on the topic and post what I find....

Re: Waterproofness test...
I just don't see why you would want to only submerge the ammo if the point of the test is to see if your gun remains operational after being submerged in water.
Your ammunition is useless without the gun, and vice versa.
I suppose you could do three tests: 1) soak the ammo and try to fire from a dry gun; 2) soak the gun and fire dry ammo; 3) soak the gun and ammo together and try to fire.
