Question Question for You Infantry Guys...

Im getting ready to order some body armor, plate carrier and pouches.
But Im wondering what the average mag count on your MOLLE gear you would carry when you were"outside the wire"?

I believe this question would be best directed at Brian Williams of NBC News.
"A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself"

Basic loadout is one in the rifle and 6 in pouches per the book. We went out as individual squads (on foot) and rarely hooked up with a platoon or resupply for a week. They would come if we called but we carried double.

You would probably get a different answer from people that went on patrols a few thousand yards outside an FOB, or did assaults on buildings, or did a lot of fighting. Probably depends on transportation, unit size, support, and mission. I didn't see the kind of shit people are dealing with now.

No, the book says 210 rounds.

What people actually carry varies quite a bit.

Started with 10 on me, 1 in rifle. Then I backed it down to 6/1. Now I carry 8 total. You can always throw loose mags in an assault pack if needed.

What's your setup for? Courses, real time missions, SHTF?

Could carry more ammo if you ditch the half case of water.

I'm going to have to keep an eye on this thread. Right now I'm trying to build a kit I can keep in my trunk for emergencies, and just grab my SBR and pistol and head for the hills in case of an emergencies.

What was the book load for your sidearm? 4/1 with one in the chamber?

Right now, I've been tracking down RFI pieces and rucksacks for trunk use. Just waiting on my 3 day pack to finish the rifleman RFI kit, got a SAW RFI kit coming in for extra storage, got a pistolman RFI kit and both a large and medium rucksack - all in MultiCam.

Any recommendations on a good plate carrier? I've given up on trying to find a XXL IOTV in Multicam.
