Having a problem with PIC because of a federal requirment
Sorry if this is not in the right section I am new to this forum and couldn't find a more appropriate section, my question regards fire arm laws in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania specifically when it comes to the purchase of handguns. When I was a young kid I made two very dumb decisions receiving an underage DUI at 18 and another at 19, sense then I completed all probation and court ordered programs and have not had any encounters with the police since then I will be 23 in May. Last summer I purchased a Smith and Wesson SD9VE on buds gun shop online and shipped it to an authorized dealership where they ran the PIC system and I was denied because my second underage DUI qualified as an M1 misdemeanor because it was my second under the age of 21. At that point I had the firearm returned and received a refund. After that I contacted my attorney and apparently the PIC system used to only go through local and state law enforcement but now also runs through a federal system as well. Under state and local laws I am perfectly legal to own a handgun but under a federal regulation any M1 misdemeanor makes you ineligible to own a hand gun. I want to know if there this anything I can do to legally obtain a hand gun in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania through ether a gun show, private seller, an appeal to the courts anything? I have never been convicting of a violent crime, theft, anything like that I made a few very poor chooses when I was younger I know attend college at a school in north Philadelphia and I would like to have one in my safe god forbid I ever need it and to target shoot in my hometown in bucks county at the bucks county fish and game range. Thank You.

I'm not a lawyer. You need to speak to one. That handles firearms law.

erik, you are in deep enough that you need to consult an attorney with firearms law knowledge. People here can give you direction but you should still talk to an attorney and from what you have said it will be a long time before you can ever touch a firearm.
Sorry but like I tell young folks all the time, don't make dumb decisions because they will hang with you forever or at least it will seem like that.

Were the DUI charges in PA?
