C&R License??
I requested the paperwork for a Curio & Relic License (ATF 7CR) yesterday. Is there any "downside" to filing this form? Do I open myself to increased scrutiny from "the Man"?

Re: C&R License??
Sure you do. You are getting a federal license and must follow the rules that come with with. Go to the BATFE website and read the FAQs about possessing a C&R license. That said, you probably are under less scrutiny that a a dealer with an 01 license. As a dealer your shop and books can be inspected at any time although in my case any time they wanted to inspect my books they called and set up an appointment (I'm in the gun repair business and as such I don't have "regular" shop hours like a typical gun store).

Here is a link to what is probably the best description of what you would be getting into.

The regulations for a C&R 03 are much different than a 01 license. Inspections are not unheard of but quite unlikely from what I have read. Just follow the rules and you will be fine. I think that getting my 03 was well worth it for me, between savings on transfers and discounts from dealers it has paid for itself many times over.

Re: C&R License??
Anyone with a 03 C&R license in PA, who has had a visit/inspection from BATFE, please post here. If it's not too personal, please let us know why. I have yet to meet one in PA. At this point it's not a problem, next President --- Who knows. I'm speaking for C&R, 01 license is a different ballgame.

Re: C&R License??
IMHO the benefits of a C&R license definitely out weigh the possible downside of more scrutiny from "the man", heck they're probably already watching you anyway!
I've only had my C&R for a few months but so far it's $30 very well spent. As stated before, the Surplus Rifles website is an excellent resouce for C&R info.

Re: C&R License??
I have had a C and R for a little over three years. I have purchased a few firearms with it at a considerable savings. I have NOT been "inspected". That being said, I really have reaped the benefits of getting dealer pricing at Brownell's and MidwayUSA. Make sure you get them a copy of your FFL once you obtain it.

Re: C&R License??
I have a C&R and had an inspection while living in Garrett County, Maryland, courtesy of the Baltimore field office. The young lady conducting the inspection told me that it was primarily a training session for her, that her supervisor wanted all of his staff to be familiar with the differences in requirements for C&R licensees.
She called and made an appointment and arrived precisely at the agreed time. Essentially, it was a two part inspection. First part being a review of applicable regulations and review of my "bound book." The second part was an actual inventory of all C&R weapons against the bound book entries. She no interest in any non-C&R guns. She randomly chose one entry, a VZ52 that I had purchased on Gunbroker and "ran" it through their system. This of course rattled the person I bought it from in Florida when they contacted him and made sure that he had the required copy of my license.
Under the regs, I could have elected to have the inspection in the Baltimore field office instead of my home, but I was 185 miles from that office, a 3 1/2 hour trip each way. All in all, it took about two hours and was essentially painless. The young lady was personable while maintaining her professionalism.Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.

Re: C&R License??
I've had my C&R for about 5 years........no inspections.
I don't think I've ever read/heard of anyone being inspected lately.
