What is it about Americans, guns?
http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/23/world/...epage-t&page=1
There are an estimated 270 million guns in the hands of civilians in the United States, making Americans the most heavily armed people in the world per capita. Yemen, a tribal nation with no history of strong central government or the rule of law, comes in a distant second. (In your opinion is this good or bad, how will this estimate be viewed by people if stronger gun control is pushed by the government)

Re: What is it about Americans, guns?
IMO, it is about 300 million guns too few, since I think every person should have at least 2 guns.

It's gonna be real hard to put that genie back in the lamp. Supreme Court, NRA, no will in Congress (for anything, it seems) or from either presidential candidate. Non-starter.

Wow, bloomberg always sounds like an ass. You would think a guy who circumvented the rules to get reelected would realize that piling on rule after rule won't stop a determined person from achieving their goal.

Re: What is it about Americans, guns?
You can tell the author's prejudice simply by how they view the history of gun laws.
There were no major laws or anything to note until the Supreme Court cases 0of 2008 and 2010 and then all of a sudden the 2nd ammendment was given "sweeping new power".
So the first ever gun laws enacted to disarm slaves were nothing to mention. The first federal laws meant to disarm soldiers returning from war that vowed to return to Washington armed if they did not get there promised benefits for fighting is nothing to discuss. The GCA in 68 and the 80's are also meaningless as is the 1994 assault weapons ban.
However, a Supreme Court case that simply says the 2nd ammendment does give the right to firearms and entire classes of guns cannot be outlawed is apparently revolutionary. The other case simply incorporates a decision about the DC area to the states also apparently set this country on it's head in regards to guns.
After that little bit there really seems no reason to finish the article.Last edited by ByAnyMeans; July 23rd, 2012 at 03:56 PM. Reason: spelling

"I can tell you that I don't think there's any other developed country in the world that has remotely the problem we have," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said after the shooting rampage in Colorado
No, he is right. The "under" developed countries just buy Russian made attack helicopters or use chemical weapons (Iraq) or some just prefer to stone someone to death.
And again he is right, no body else has our current Obamination!

Re: What is it about Americans, guns?
Does that number count the illegally owned fire arms and criminals?
Because if that 270 millions only counts legally owned firearms, doesn't it prove the point that firearms don't turn people into raging killers? People either are or aren't bad people. Guns don't turn good people bad. If they did.... well 270 million... we'd be fucked. Wouldn't we ALL be out there killing people?
So the number of guns in America is totally irrelevant to anything.

Only 270 Million. I'll have to step up my efforts and visit the gun store at the end of the week.
