Quick Draw Gun Magnet
I searched the site for this and only saw ad type stuff.
Anyone have experience or opinions on this item? I'm thinking it might be good with my XD45 Tactical in the car, but I am assuming there is enough steel in it to work.

Re: Quick Draw Gun Magnet
I don't know. This would have to be one strong magnet to withstand the pot holes in city streets. the next question would be, if it is that strong how hard is it to deploy your weapon from it? Don't get me wrong I think it is a great idea, the problem I see is how good will it function?

Re: Quick Draw Gun Magnet
I would guess that there is more than enough steel in the XD for this to work. I dont know if the gun would stay in place if you were involved in an accident but it looks it could be usefull.

Re: Quick Draw Gun Magnet
Looking at that design, I have my doubts that it would keep a handgun secure in a vehicle - especially in an emergency stop/crash. It doesn't look like there's enough surface area on that magnet to do more than hold it in place under a desk or other "non moving" locations.
That said, I have no firsthand knowledge of that particular product.
I don't know if they would be strong enough, but Sears sells magnetic "tool holders" that may work. (Although have my doubts about use in a car)
I actually picked up a package of the small ones (about 3" in length) to try mounting a Kel Tec P32 n the house. The magnet seemed pretty strong, but there wasn't much surface area on the tiny slide to hold it securely. I found a "sweet spot" where it worked, but decided one of the larger magnets would likely work better. Then I lost my job, and "buying magnets" became a pretty low priority, so I haven't had the opportunity to try out the larger ones. They were pretty nice too, they had mounting holes and are covered in a "plastic" substance to prevent scratches. I just looked, and couldn't find them online, but I know that they were not a Craftsman product.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Quick Draw Gun Magnet
There is a discussion of the Quick Draw magnet on THR. Most of their opinions seem to be negative, especially about retention in an accident much like EmptyMag mentioned above.
I wouldn't say it's a bad idea, but I prefer to keep things on my person.

Re: Quick Draw Gun Magnet
Ive seen its like before, just never one so small.
I usually see something like this :

and it may hold better in a car. Though that one has three points of contact and the one I was searching for is about the same size but has one huge point of contact, with ridges for sights.

This one is similair but with a velcro retention strap made for autos.
Been wanting one of these myself.Millions for defense, Not one cent for tribute!

Why not just screw a "plastic" holster in place instead?

Re: Quick Draw Gun Magnet
Terrible idea. Some of the mounting configurations shown in the video are horrendous. This is not a secure way to store a loaded firearm!!!
I can also opine that I am sure that a handgun mounted overhead in this fashion in a vehicle will become a projectile in an auto accident. I for one do not want a loaded handgun flying around while in an auto accident. It is bad enough that a car accident will interrupt my text messaging, phone conversations, shaving and breakfast!!!Join the groups protecting your rights from the fools trying to take them from you!
