    Default Bullet Choice?

I am getting ready to start reloading and am looking for some help. I would like some input on bullet choices. My intent is to target shoot / IDPA. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I'm very pleased with their lead bullets in 9mm and .38. And they are only $31per 500 for the lead round nosed flat points I'm using. They are very hard, and I've noticed minimal leading.

I don't know what gun or caliber you are going to use, but I shoot 230 grain in my XD-45 and 124/125 grain in my M&P9. This site seems to have resonable prices. I know everyone likes different powder but my favorite is Titegroup. I use it for both. I hope this helps.

If you are planning on shooting a lot, lead bullets are less expensive than jacketed.

That being said there are a few things to watch:

If you're shooting a GLOCK - Stick with factory ammo! See Dean Spiers wwww.thegunzone.com (I think that's it) and read the articles about Glock Kabooms carefully.

If you are shooting a pistol with polygonal rifling - Use jacketed bullets only. BTW. Glock uses polygonal rifling.

Lead bullets should be sized to the groove diameter, jacketed bullets should be sized to land diameter.

I prefer mid weight to heavy bullets (for the caliber) at slightly lower speeds but either way you have to make the required power level for IDPA.

Last, get a couple reloading manuals and read them at least twice before you assemble your first cartridge.

The above suggestion of Roger's Better Bullets is a good one. There are two other bullet makers i also use. Mike at Mastercast Bullets makes a quality product and is a great to deal with. I have also bought bullets from The Bulletworks. They also make a quality product. I'm so happy with Mastercast Bullets I will be buying from them from now on. I just bought 2,000 148gr DEWC .358" bulets from them for $112 including S&W/Insurance.

Montana Gold seems to have the best prices on FMJ. Most of the guys I shoot IPSC with load them, as do I. Free shipping makes it nice and they ship pretty fast. The company is owned by a bunch of shooters.

Brick, your comment about reloading for Glocks is way off-base. Sure there were a couple of K-B's that got alot of publicity, but that is no reason not to reload for an entire line of pistols. If you double charge your 1911, you'll K-B that just as easily as a Glock. At any IPSC match, I'll see 20 Glocks shooting reloaded ammo. No problems.

Don't believe the hype, bubba. All guns will K-B if you put too much powder in them.
