Waiting Period On Purchase Of Pistol
Recently I went to buy a pistol at a well-know outfitters in Hamburg, and I was led to believe there was no "waiting period".
Yet, when I went to pay for the pistol, I was told that I had been flagged as requiring further background check and I couldn't have the pistol for 15 days.
Does anyone know why I would have been flagged as such?
I've never been arrested or convicted of any serious crime.
I've lived in Lehigh Country for 20 years, own a home, same job for that period of time.
I'm married with children, no outstanding debts.
Honorable Discharge from the Army, 1976.
I am, however, a first-generation American with a "funny consonants" Norwegian last name, and both parents were immigrants. Could this be a reason?

There is no waiting period. That is not to say that there may be an issue that arises when the check is run. Here is another thread that is already discussing this subject.

Re: Waiting Period On Purchase Of Pistol
From what I understand, it could have been that more than one Robert Kayland came up and they will just need to confirm who is purchasing the firearm, or it could have just been a simple backlog (overwhelming) in the new system, maybe caused by the amount requests for the day (it is a computer search).
If all is well, as you have indicated with your past, then you will soon get a call to pickup your firearm.

Re: Waiting Period On Purchase Of Pistol
Thanks for the replies, guys... my REAL last name is uncommon, so I doubt it was a case of somebody else with the same name, leastwise not in PA.
It sounds like it could be a simple matter of system overload... although it's coincidental that, in the other thread, the guy that had it happen to him was also buying a snub-nosed revolver.
Maybe it's something about a small concealable weapon that moves one up a level on the "maybe we should check this out more" in the computer program?
If it's just a matter of volume on the system, well geez, there's not much excuse for THAT nowadays, with computer hardware being as inexpensive as it is, and online access being so fast.

Chances are, if you have a unique last-name and there isn't anyone else with a similar name who's done bad things, then it's probably operator error. I had a brief "additional checking required" moment until the guy realized he goofed my name...and then it was fine.

Re: Waiting Period On Purchase Of Pistol
Thanks again, guys... this was my first gun purchase in over 30 years, so it could be the 'first-timer' syndrome.

It could be the first time thing, but this may very well be your tip off that someone has stolen your identity. Its a long shot of course, but getting a credit report for yourself is easy.

Just curious, are you one of those guys who thinks we never really landed on the moon? Or that 9/11 was an "inside job"? (On second thought, let's not go there.)
