    Default Basic Pistol Course

Does Pennsylvania require applicants for a carry permit to take a basic pistol training course?

I don't find anything on my local county site.

There is no reqirement for the LTCF, BUT... it wouldn't be unwise to take along with any other training you would want to take. Knowledge is power!

Not required but definitely a good idea. Even if you're familiar with firearms it's never a bad idea to take a refresher on the basics. The more knowledge you have the better.

    Greetings-

There is no training requirement for a PA LTCF. Simply secure the application and present yourself at the local Sherriff's office or courthouse with the requisite identification and fees.

My wife and I were in and out of the MontCo courthouse with licenses in hand in less than a half hour.

I am scheduled to take the NRA Instructor Basis Pistol course and am second guessing how useful it is going to be.

In addition to skills training with your gun, you should also spend some serious time working our other aspects of carrying (legal, moral, ethical). Everyone who carries should, at a minimum, read the classic book on the topic: "In the Gravest Extreme." It's 30 years old but still available on Amazon and from a number of other sources. Other than specific advice on guns of course, it has stood the test of time well. Revolvers were king back then (to some of us, they still are).

Do you mean how useful will it be for you to be certified as an instructor? I'm sure there are always people signing up for those courses...I know i'm looking to take it myself...
