Default anyone ever heard of Jimenez Arms?

my buddy bought a J.A Nine, made by Jimenez Arms at the gun show this past weekend. it might have been one of the stupidest things ive ever witnessed. he traded a Taurus revolver in .38 sp, straight up for it. the taurus was not even 2 months old. i warned him that ive never heard of the company, and told him that you get what you pay for. (the guy was asking 120 for the brand new gun) After he bought it the guy told him that it would only take winchester, federal, and independence rounds. so he bought some federal HPs, went to the range, and the gun jammed on every shot. he put some FMJs through it and they worked fine, but this is a carry gun, id want JHPs in it and id want to beable to trust that it wont jam.

So has anyone else ever gone through this dance?

I think thats the same bunch of people that made the Jennings, Jenco, Bryco and a crap load of other named makes. The guy closes, then reopens under another name to avoid lawsuits from the use of his guns.

Bruce Jennings or something like that is the "ring leader" of that series of companies.

Generally the firearms are type snobs turn their nose up to. Cheap, not the best things out there, sorta the equivalent of the High Points. However there are thousands of good working models in peoples hands that go bang when they pull the triggers.

I personally think your friend was stupid for trading a Taurus 38 for a cheap brass slinger.

I've not gone through that dance, but I've seen others dance it before.

A quick google search turns up enough info to make me cringe.

IMO bad, bad trade. Bryco/Jennings/Jimenez arms have a poor record. Granted they were once a Ca based company and likely they're problems got blown out of proportion. I’ve shot the Jimenez .380, whatever model it is, complete POS. My GF's dad bought it at a gun show new for around $100-150. Best advise would be to ditch it for whatever he can get for it, won’t be much.

Google any of the below names. You'll be reading all day.

Cool Re: anyone ever heard of Jimenez Arms?

guns of that family. Whether it was a Jenning family member or a close friend that owned the company - they are pretty much all the same.

    Jennings
    Raven
    Phoenix
    Lorcin
    Bryco
    Jiminez

I'm sure theres a couple more company names to add to that list.

Dont get me wrong though, I've owned a Raven 25 that was 100% reliable - but it was only a 25acp.. (I'd like to have another someday). And a friend of mine in FL still carries the Phoenix/Lorcin 380 that he bought back in the early '90s - still shoots fine.

That was one of the first items I read after shooting their .380, and attempting to research who made the POS. Scary

I'm far from a gun snob, but I wouldn't own, carry, or knowingly shoot a gun whose manufacturer stays in business by relocating, and changing their name.

To their credit though - its not their fault for how others use the firearms that they produced. ....which is why they changed their names on a couple occasions.
