Question Philly folks ... a question!

I just got an offer for a job in Philly. How bad will the commute be from Spring City to Wissahickon Avenue in Philadelphia (VA Offices)?

    Thanks y'all!

Generally, 422 (I've heard) and the Schuylkill (I know) are miserable during rush hour.

It all depends on what time you are commuting.
    During the rush hours 7:00am - 8:30am and 4:30pm - 6:30pm it's grid lock.

It depends upon what time of day you want to make that drive.

I live in Spring City. During the morning rush hour I'd give myself atleast an hour and a half maybe 2 so that I wouldn't be late. That's if there's no accidents, etc... 422 down to the "Surekill" may take 30 minutes. Somedays the Schuylkill can move along pretty good. Other days it's a snails pace.

As much as I'd hate to say it.... You may want to try and live closer if you can afford it.

EDIT:: I will add that I have not had to make that commute regularly in about 13 years. I'm going on past experience.

Well, my wife scored a job in the area first (she'll be working in West Chester) so we based where to lease a house off of that. So we're stuck with Spring City now (sign the lease Friday and move in on Saturday!).

So I'm looking at a 1.5-2 hour DC Beltway type mess? Nice That kind of tempers this offer.

BTW, PisnNapalm ... we'll have to try and meet up once we get moved in since we'll be "neighbors" it seems.

I drive 422 everyday... I wouldn't even consider driving on it past the Collegeville exit on most days in the morning and sometimes on really good days it is decent up to the Oaks exit... anything after that is solid traffic @ 10 mph or worse... The traffic alone would make the job not worth it in my opinion.

Maybe your job site is near mass transit?

You wouldn't happen to know a link the shows Philly's mass transit lines, would you? The job site is at the VA Offices on Wissahickon Avenue.

That's true... You could take the rail line into Philly. You can get to Exton fairly easily as well as down into Paoli too. Parking at the Paoli station is horrible though, I'd avoid it on weekdays. I drive a school bus through that area everyday and it's always a mess for parking there.

Look into the trains. It might actually be cheaper and less nerve racking in the long run. A round trip ticket might run ya about $10. So that's $50 a week. With the price of gas that will likely be cheaper.

I've taken the train into Philly a few times. It takes about an hour from Exton/Paoli. Not too bad.
