Anyone good @ converting .flv files? Ex. Youtube?
I'm getting a PowerPoint presentation together. I've downloaded a videoconversion download helper but it's not working for some reason. I've got the format backwards or something.
If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it.
It's a good attention-getter and honors Sidney Pollack in the process. I figured it would also remind the "audience" to turn off their cell phones.
Here's the link if anyone wants to give it a go. I'll gladly give you rep points. thanks - Mike

Why not just go to http://www.keepvid.com and put in that URL, saving it as MP4?
You don't tell us what format you'd like it to be in. There are other websites that convert videos; I'll have to find the one that will give you many choices in output format.

For other online choices, try these (and I don't know if they work):
http://vixy.net/ (AVI, MOV, 3GP)
http://catchvideo.net/ (MPG, DVD)
http://www.videoconvertx.com/
http://www.zamzar.com/
Haven't yet found the one that I have found to be most successful. I think I've used VIXY before.

Visual Hub for the Mac will convert pretty much any video format into any other:

SFM, you're a little vague as to where you are in the process. I don't do this particular type of conversion very often, but my machine seems to be already set up to do it. From beginning to end, maybe a few minutes at most. Obviously somewhat longer if you have to install either of these SW tools.
For some reason Real Player was installed some time ago and this has a side effect of putting a "Download this Video" dialog in the upper right hand corner of the YouTube video player. Clicking on that download link will put the .FLV file on your local hard drive.
The other tool that is already on my machine is Super, a video conversion tool (completely free by the way). The download link is at the bottom of the page where it says "Download SUPER © setup file". Once you have Super installed, you will see this screen.
You didn't mention what file format you are trying to convert to, but I generated a WMV of your link (Sidney Pollack in Cliché.flv) in a couple of minutes on a fairly slow machine.
Pex's online suggestions are probably the easier way to go for a one shot deal, but if you want to have more control over the audio and video codecs for a particular container, as well as changing frame rates or rescale the video resolution, Super does it all pretty easily for free.Last edited by Vortex; July 14th, 2008 at 03:01 AM. Thanks for the help. I was vague because I never did it before lol. Didn't really matter what format it was put into as long as it would play. I did MPEG and i get an error that quicktime does not understand the format. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
