Re: What are the best 1911 handguns
Defenitley not Kimber. I had one that malfunctioned every time I shot it (read about it in another thread, I've typed it too many times on here lol), and I almost took a .45 in the knee because a former coworkers kimber had a mim part break and send one through the wall under my legs (I was sitting).
I'm not too familiar with other ones but the guys on here should be able to help.

Re: What are the best 1911 handguns
For a mass produced gun under $900 I really like a COLT !
If you don't need MADE IN USA on the side, Springfield Armory is my choice.
Colt and Springer both come in basic mil-spec configurations, and they both have versions with all the bells n whistles installed.
I'm a Colt man, but I would have no problem owning a Springer.

For the money I would have to say Springfield Armory. The mil-spec model. I had one but like a fool I traded on a Beretta Cougar.

I really like my COLT XSE guns.
Springer makes a similar gun. "LOADED STAINLESS".
Again, I like both.

Re: What are the best 1911 handguns
Lets see, I've had Kimbers, Colts, Paras, Springfields and 1 Llama<----utter crap.
Of them all I would have to got with a Springfield Loaded Model, it has all the stuff you really "need" without going over board. Second would be a Para, single or double stack, single action or DAO it's up to you, just get one in stainless if you go Para."We shoot to stop. ... Unfortunately, death can be a byproduct."

Re: What are the best 1911 handguns
I'll let others fight out which is "best". However for the best bang for the buck check out the new Taurus 1911. Love mine so far. Today I was talking to the guys at Classic Pistol and they were very impressed with the one they are renting out. They are seeing how long they can go without cleaning it. So far I think they are up to a few thousand rounds.

If you want a base gun to send off to a reputable 1911 gunsmith then buy a Colt in Series 70 configuration.
