Default Buying votes $1 billion at a time

    http://www.boston.com/news/politics/...announces.html

Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder announced today that the Justice Department will award $1 billion in grants to help local law enforcement agencies hire about 4,700 officers.

Boston is the biggest beneficiary in Massachusetts, with $11.8 million, enough for 50 officers. Other recipients include New Bedford, 13 officers; Lowell, 12; and Fall River, 10 officers.
So let's review, class: Piss off cops one day by saying one 'acted stupidly', invite the cop to the White House for a beer, and if all else fails give PDs $1 billion to hire more cops.

Maybe the FOP will endorse Obama in 2012.

At least the money is coming from the stim-u-less package.

Did I do the math wrong? $11.8M / 50 officers = $236,000 per officer? I understand that this is to hire officers, but over how much time is this money being used? I'd hope its at least 3 years, yet I doubt it's more than 1.

They say it's for 3 years...even still, that's a lot of cake for an officer to be paid.
