Default Carry Concealed During Deer Season

Is it legal to carry concealed during deer or bear season. If you are in the woods with a camera and no hunting license.

    Yes.........

    But beware of hunters.............

Why would you knowingly be in the woods with a camera, during hunting season?

You could be mistaken for a PETA member.............

I no longer have the desire to kill 4 legged creatures. I still enjoy the hunt. I would wear orange and not disturb other hunters, so as not to be confused for a radical PITA person. Photography is also a hobby of mine and I'd like photographs of wildlife. At the same time carrying concealed for protection against the odd 4 or 2 legged creature.

As long as you have an LTCF you can carry concealed while in the woods whether you are hunting, or taking pictures.

For the hunters with LTCF's, if you are going to carry concealed with a handgun that might be used to dispatch a wounded animal, make sure it is a revolver or single shot, you cannot use a semi auto handgun to do this.

That's a little confusing to me,,,,,,,, scenario,,,,, I have a Nikon D300 and I am in the woods with orange vest, orange hat, and a 1911 on my hip (concealed, and I have an LTCF). Am I legal during hunting season?

As long as your not going to dispatch any game animals with your 1911 your good to go.

Sadly, two legged varmint are not considered game.

Yes you are. However, PA game law says that you cannot use a semi automatic for hunting. That includes using a semi auto pistol to kill a wounded animal. Since many people carry a semi auto when CCing, I was just reminding them that you cannot use it if you wound an animal, track it and need to finish it off. Most that I know switch to a revolver when out in the woods during hunting season.

By the way, if you were out in the woods taking pictures and were attacked by an animal (rabid coyote, bear, whatever) and you used your semi auto to defend yourself and kill the animal, there are overzealous Game Wardens that would cite you for using a semi auto (there are many WCO's that are very good, and would understand, but there are those who go strictly by the letter of the game regulations).

Bert I think it cool to photograph animals in the wild, When I hunt I take a camera with me most of the time and get lots of good pics, But I'm sitting still while hunting which works well for getting the pic or taking game. Walking thru the woods during hunting season with Orange on and moving the game around may open a can of worms with alot of hunters not to mention PGC. IF you are still you may be good to go, if not be careful. some hunters do get bent out of shape when you spook the game their hunting. Good luck. and get some good pic's.
