My newest home defense weapon....MY DOG!!!
A few days ago i went to Newark Int. Airport to pick up my newest home defense weapon but more importantly a loving and loyal friend and family member. My new dog "Africanus" named after Scipio Africanus, is a South African Mastiff also known as the Boerboel. The boerboel is one of a few dogs that was specifically bred for protection! These beautiful dogs were bred by the Boers of South Africa to keep their family safe. They were bred as a babysitter for the children. As the children were out and about in the fields working and playing the Boerboel was always there watching and protecting. They were bred with the best of all Mastiff traits including the most powerful bite of any mastiff. They say a lion has a bite force of around 740 lbs PSI and a pittbull only has a bite force around 235 lbs. Normal Mastiffs bites are around 500 while the boerboels is over 600! This is so the boerboel could bite a leopard with such force it sends the leopard up a tree! Boerboels are GREAT with children and other animals. They also dont drool as much as other Mastiffs! Like most mastiffs the boerboel is a family dog despite their large aggressive appearance!

Our dogs have always been our first line of defense. They make lots of noise and will get in the intruders way. Besides our Elkhounds have lots of teeth and always SMILE. Good luck with your new family member it looks like it will be great protection.
I always stressed to my son"one shot one kill that was all that is needed". When He came home from Marine Corp Boot camp He was telling me about the Marines stressing "ONE SHOT ONE KILL" He looks at me and the light bulb went on Dad was now a whole lot smarter than he was 13 weeks ago.

I'll stick with my red and blue nosed pits. Beautiful dog though.
That dude in the google picture needs to get a quality leash and collar. I'm sure if that dog was determined enough it could snap that leash/collar combo in a heartbeat.Last edited by WhiteShadow; September 14th, 2009 at 12:08 AM.

Steroid abuse? That's like AH-nold dog. Ghhhet Daaaaahwwwnnn. It would probably pull my arm out of socket going after a squirrel, or the neighbors - 12 y/o.
I'm a Dobie guy myself.
Pretty dog though! Especially since they are less drooley than normal mastiffs. Seems like a fine tuned variant of the breed.
