Default Need help with Ruger MIII 5.5 bbl

Hi Guys , Just Purchased a beautiful Blued Ruger MIII .22 , no problems with the gun , i just cant get the gun to shoot as accurately as i know it can, no matter what ammo i use its just not as accurate as it should be , i get better groups with my Walther P22 and now my new Berreta Bobcat.

So far i have tried :

    CCI Green Tag

    CCI Velocitor

    CCI Minimag

    CCIStinger.

    Remington Golden Bullet.

    None not good enough.

What works well in your Ruger .22?

    Thanks, Nyman

I dont know about the accuracy part, but I had to try a bunch O diff brands to get it to cycle reliably. Normally use it to shoot steel plates at the club.

    Mine eats thunderbolts.
The mini-mags worked too, but at that cost it kinda defeats the purpose (for me) of having a 22.

Sorry to hear you're having problems with your MKIII....I got one a few months ago and had reliability problems with it and sent it back for repair...it's been fine since. The accuracy of mine is great. Actually, I have the 7 inch barrel but the gun is more accurate than I will ever be and I use the bulk stuff from Walmart.

    Remington Golden

    Winchester X-Pert

    Federal

It shoots all of these reliably and accurately. I hope you can get this worked out as it is a fun gun.

dont know if you checked yet, but mine has the adjustable target sights, and my rear sight came loose and started to walk to the left.
    Just needed tightened.

are you shooting off hand or from a rest?

try using sandbag or shot bag and use that as a rest if you do not have a pistol rest and see what the results are.

also have another shooter give the pistol a try and see how they do.

check the chamber with a borelight and a bright light to see if there are any burrs in the chamber or the barrel.

    good luck
    gotta love her ;)

    mrnyman,
Only you didn't tell us was what kind of groups we're you getting and at what distance. That would help a lot. That and as gold cup abuser asked are you shooting 2 hand grip, 1 hand grip (like bullseye shooters do), from a rest, if from a rest what is on the rest, the gun, your hands, your wrists, etc). Is this the first semi auto you have shot? Remember the grip angle of a Ruger is different than most semi autos and it may take a while for you to get used to the difference in the grip angle. I have owned 8 Ruger 22 pistols over the years and all shot better than I can hold. I currently own 2, a MKII and a MKIII 22/45 and both shoot very good. If someone else shoots it and can't get the accuracy you expect, give Ruger a call and talk it over with them. If they think something is amiss they will make it right for you.

    Sorry guys,

Yes i am shooting two hands offhand i do not have a rest high enough for the range table .

I am getting approx. 5 inches.

Maybe i should try some of the cheaper ammo , sometimes the cheap ammo shoots better in some guns.

The barrel and chamber is immaculate, so it has to be me or the ammo.

Do not get too concerned Nyman, just stick with it and you will figure it out. I have 2 MKII models, one of which is over 20 years old. Just had a trigger job done on it but other than that both are stock, very accurate and eat anything I feed them.
