Do you carry FMJ's or JHP's or both in your main carry gun?

In your main carry piece, as in, the one your life depends on most, what do you carry? And why?

Personally, the first 4 rounds that always come out of my magazines are Speer Gold Dots, then the proceeding rounds are FMJ Winchester white box's. I have my reasons for doing so, still plenty effective. Note: all my handguns are 9mm.

My first line mags are JHP's(in gun and direct spares). If I dont have enough JHPs to fill all my mags, I use whatever FMJ's I have to fill the remaining mags or under any leftover JHP's.

I dont buy the 20-25rnd gimmick pistol ammo boxes, so generally I'll have enough to fill 3+ 15rd mags from a 50rd box.



My only exception is, my 25acp is loaded only with 50gr FMJ's.

I don't spend much time researching bullet performance. I do find some of the info posted on here showing cadavers peaty interesting. I carry primarily 9mm and always load it with FMJ. Always feeds reliably and I go for maximum penetration. JMT

I know of quite a few people who only have enough HP's to fill their carry mag and thats it. Including myself. If I run out of 20 rounds of hp I'm probably going to be shooting through cover, I'd rather have FMJ's for that.
Secondary and tertiary mags are loaded with WWB 115gr.
I'm actually going to be looking into getting a +p fmj for my back up mags.

In the Bersa .380 (EDC), primary mag is Hornady XTP
1st backup mag: Hornady XTP
2nd backup mag: Golden Sabers (what was lying around)

HD pistol (Speed Six .357): loaded w/ Speer Gold Dot .38 sp +p, then a couple speed loaders (one with more .38 and one with .357 SJHP).

I carry 124gr Speer GD in my M&P...all 17 rds. 14 are factory GDs and 3 are reloads with the same bullet with a hot load.
