30 Remington
ok so im inheriting a remington model 14 in 30 remington... i know its an obselete gun and caliber but i still think its gonna be fun to shoot it.... anyone have any info on where to grab some ammo?? i dont feel comfortable shooting the ammo that my grandfather is giving me cuz its probably 20 years old.... any comments?

Yeah. What's wrong with ammo that's only 20 yrs old?
As long as it's not corroded, 50 yr old ammo should function just fine.
I shot a lot of Vietnam era GI ammo when I was in the service.

ohh ok i was warned that ammo has a shelf life and if its too old you shouldnt use it cuz the powder gets unstable after a while under pressure...

When stored properly, Ammo and powder have extremely long shelf lives.
IF...stored properly there is no reason that WWI and WWII manufactured ammo should not function properly. Most ammo does not contain a compressed charge of powder, so it is not under pressure.
I fired Artillery powder charges (up to 16lbs of powder in one charge) in the mid 90's that were manufactured as early as 1965. the sealed tubes were rusty and cruddy, but still air tight and never had a problem.

that would be nice.... cuz hes giving me 2 boxes which is enough to go to a range and have fun with it but not enough to actually take it out and hunt... too bad... as long as i have ammo ill use it... i was just worred i wouldnt find any... id rather not have a mantle gun...

anyone here happen to know how to disassemble it??? needs a good cleaning and oiling but i dont know how to take it apart to do that... and i dont have the money right now to go and buy that NRA book at the moment...
