Default Where to go for 1911 refinishing?

Is there anyone in the Berks county area that does gun refinishing? I'd like to have the frame finished in a nice DURABLE black like the springfield armory kote finish, and I'd like to have the frame and frame parts hard chromed.

Is there anyone in the area that would do this? Shipping a handgun just seems like a pain in the ass.

If not and mailing it out is the only way, who would you guys recommend I go with? I see Tripp is shutting down their refinishing business, so they're out of the picture.

    Thanks!
    Dave

I sent a well worn LEO trade in P226 to CCR Refinishing.
    http://www.ccrrefinishing.com/

Brad did an awesome job on it. I've put almost 5000 rounds of 9mm through it and broken in a new leather holster with it. His prices are very reasonable.

The only place that the finish has worn off is on the internal slide rails. The outside finish looks like the day that I got it back. CCR has lots of happy customers over on the Sig Forum. They also advertise on the Beretta Forum.

The only gripe I had was the turn around time. It took almost 10 weeks for mine to come back. That was last August when he was very busy. From reading different posts, his turn around times have gotten better. You can contact them for an estimate on how long his turn around times are running.

    I wouldn't send a gun anywhere else.

That looks great! Is that cera-hide or duracoat? How much did that job cost you?

I haven't had any work done there yet, but Evolution Gun Works has one of the best reputations in the business for 1911 work.

They have a process called E-Treat as a finish (as well as matte, hard chrome, etc).

There is a write up on the 1911 forum about it - http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=136979

And some pictures here - http://egw-guns.com/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=5

And some pricing here - http://www.egw-guns.com/index.html

    Good luck...

You could also ship it to Springfield Armory if you like the Armory Kote... my experience has been that they have THE BEST customer service I have ever dealt with.

Thats the cera-hide finish. I had a new set of Mepro night sights and a spring kit installed when he put the gun back together.
I paid just over $300.00 plus UPS ($20) for the whole job.
The night sights were $100 and the spring kit was $26.
IIRC, the two tone was about $20 more.

I'm really happy with the way the finish is holding up. I shoot that P226 in IDPA and I sometimes OC it.
It is not babied in any way!

In Pennsylvania, I'll second the work by EGW (Evolution Gun Works), they do amazing work.

Their E-Treat is more like Melonite/Tennifer than Gunkote and other spray-on finishes, it's very, very durable. If I wanted a tough finish, I'd go with Hard Chrome, Melonite/Tennifer/E-Treat or DLC (Ionbond)/TiN/TiAIN*.
