Default Elderly, Disabled Man Wards Off Intruder With His Gun

Here is a story you won’t be seeing on those anti-gun, liberal sites.

A 71-year-old man was able to protect his home and his property because he had a gun.

    WBTV of Hickory, NC reports:

When 71-year-old Tony Pitts heard a noise out back in the middle of Monday night’s ice storm, it wasn’t chunks of ice or tree limbs hitting his Hickory home. Instead, it was a pounding on the sliding glass door.

“I heard three loud hits on it,” he told WBTV Tuesday. Pitts says he was in bed and reached for a pistol just as the glass on the door shattered.

“I got up with the gun and someone was standing in my kitchen, and I started shooting,” Pitts said.

Tony said he fired three shots and thinks the man was hit twice.

“I hate it had to happen, but it did,” said Tony.

The intruder survived being shot. Pitts is just glad he could protect himself and his home with his lawful weapon.

I'm guessing lead wasn't the precious metal he was expecting.

My training from watching Scooby Doo as a kid asks why was the glass on the ground outside and not inside? Did he shoot before the crook broke the glass?

If the crook broke the glass wouldn't it have fallen inside the house? Honestly not trying to be a troll but that stood out in the video. I am sure there can be many explanations for this though. Maybe it fell on both sides and they all ready swept up inside.

Assuming everything went down as he said, having a firearm may have saved his life and a bad guy lost today. That's the way it should be.

I'm not expert but it looks like there isn't enough glass outside to account for the whole door. My guess is what you suggested, some fell in and some out, and the inside glass has been cleaned up.

Alternatively, with tempered glass the first shattering hit from the intruder could have broken the door without dropping much or any glass out of the frame. The following shots from within would then have further reduced the structural integrity causing the glass fragments to drop down and out.
I am not a lawyer. Nothing I say or write is legal advice.

Freeze it at the :53/:54 mark.

No Trespassing sign with something handwritten at the bottom.
Appears to read "Violators Will be Shot" on one line and I can't make out the bottom line. ("Last Warning"?)

Unfortunately, I think the negatives of a shitbag defense attorney for the criminal using it against you outweigh the positive effect of "scaring off" criminals.

Yeah I really don't think there's much to it, but when I saw the glass the first thing that popped in my head was the scooby doo episode where a mummy comes to life and the first clue that not all was as it seemed was a pile of glass on the floor indicating that someone came into the room, not the mummy coming to life and walking through the smashed door. Probably one of those things that sounded better in my head.............. this is one of those paragraphs that I never thought I would write
