Default Just need one good reply. Guns in a customers car.

At the moment a large amount of guns are being stored inside of a car.
I don't agree with it, but its the safest place at the moment.
I need to pick this car up tonight and do work on it. I have a ltcf.
I just want to be sure. Think the best thing to do is move them to my car or hers.
Any advice so I cover my butt.

Just if your wondering. Her Husband passed. House is being cleaned out, fixed up and she's off and on staying there. So safest place was in the car. We are still finding guns and once everything gets sorted out a good gun safe or she may just sell them off.

    Thanks guys...

I personally would not do this, you know nothing about these guns nor where they came from, and further police tend to err on the side of you being a criminal asshole which means you could end up in the eye of a shit storm pretty quickly.

Not to mention, she could claim one went "missing" if she's distraught enough to not think clearly. People get funny about things that belonged to their dearly departed--my mom is just now finding herself able to part with old clothes my dad hasn't worn in 10 years, and we're coming up on the 3rd year after his death. If me or my brothers tried to get rid of it for her, she would have thrown a big fit.

All long guns have to be unloaded if they are in a car and the magazines have to be separate from the firearm. According to the Gun Free School Zone Act if you are passing through a school zone the long guns also have to be in a locked case.

I wouldn't touch that car with a 10 foot cleaning rod while they're guns in it. If you were to get stopped, it's only going to end badly for you.

I don't believe that applies if you have a LTCF.

    Do you have a footlocker?

If it were me, I'd have her buy a padlock, then the two of you place each gun in the footlocker (in your car or her car or wherever), and she locks it. You want to make sure all the guns are unloaded, no loaded magazines in the same container, and NO NFA WEAPONS. Making a list of serial numbers would be wise.

You can take custody of any ordinary pistols or long guns if you have your LTCF and you're not crossing any state lines. But if there are any registered machineguns, short-barreled rifles or shotguns, or other Federally-regulated NFA weapons, then she can't hand them to you.

If any of them are stolen, you'll want that list so that you can point the finger at her, and she can blame her deceased husband.

Finally, a brief bit of shameless self-promotion. If she's in the Lehigh Valley area, she's within range of my office. I've handled estates with guns, it might be cost-effective and safe for her to discuss the legal disposition or transfer of these with me. Send me a PM if you wish.

Will do. I figured that. I would love to buy these, but I think shes not in that state of mind yet.
What really made me mad is the S&W we turned over to the police and she never went to claim it. Sucks to lose such a nice gun, but it at least covered our assess.

Thanks for the replys guys. I texted her and told her the guns need to be removed before I pick up the car.

Can you elaborate as to why she tuned this particular gun over to the cops?
