    Red face 223 Reloading

I am just getting started reloading the 233. My reloading data says COL should be 2.200in. the shortest I can get is 2.230in. I am useing LEE DIES. Is this OK or DO I HAVE A PROBLEM? Die is set as low as it will go. Rockcrusher press. Max COL Is 2.260.

My recipe is: Varget 25.5 Grsl
    55 Gr. V-Max

You should be fine, OAL is well within specs., less than 2.260. By the way that is an accurate load in my 223's. Lyman lists 25.0 as being their potentially most accurate load using the 55 gr V-Max.

I'm not sure why you can't adjust the overall length shorter?

As you noted the max COAL is 2.26" (2.2598"). Any length over that will not likely fit in your magazine.

The beauty of hand loading is that you get to set how much jump into the lands your bullet is set for. Every rifle is different, so it varies a bit. And it affects accuracy.

I just loaded some 69gr HPBT for my Mini-14; with two different groups of COAL; 2.223 & 2.253. Found that the 2.223 shot a bit better. So, that's about .037 shorter than the max COAL.

If I choose if different bullet weight, it may change the optimal distance of jump, and I might have cartridges with a different COAL.
