Default ATF: Man in Possession of 90 guns Researched Mass Killings & Conned Gun Sellers

Anyone do business with this guy? It appears he purchased firearms, bullets, scopes, and tactical gear online from individual and retail sellers using a fake name and an electronic payment platform.
Then he had the guns shipped to federal firearm license-holders in different South Carolina counties, where he would pick up the gear and contested the sale, stating he never received the items. In addition apparently it's a crime if you ever researched online how to use a bumpstock.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina student was arrested and accused of illegally possessing 90 weapons, including numerous assault rifles, authorities said.
Edward Daniel Kimpton Jr., 25, was charged Tuesday with wire fraud, mail fraud and illegal possession of machine guns, The Columbia State reported.
Kimpton was arrested Friday after an 18-month investigation by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Secret Service. He's a Midlands Technical College student, officials confirmed. Authorities said Kimpton purchased firearms, bullets, scopes, and tactical gear online from individual and retail sellers using a fake name and an electronic payment platform.

A criminal complaint said Kimpton had the guns shipped to federal firearm license-holders in different South Carolina counties, then he would pick up the gear and contest the sale, stating he never received the items. The complaint said Kimpton retained the guns and the money. His victims were located in Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana, Tennessee and Washington, in addition to South Carolina, the complaint said.

Federal agents searched Kimpton's house and storage unit and found 90 weapons, 23,763 bullets, body armor, tactical clothing, gas masks, and five bump stocks, which are used to change regular assault rifles into automatic weapons.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Kimpton researched content on South Carolina mass shooters in Charleston in 2015 and Florence in 2018. He also made online searches for instructions on how to use bump stocks, the complaint said.
Kimpton was being held without bond.

His attorney Jonathan Harvey said he would continue to seek bond for his client and would file several motions regarding Kimpton's conduct and behavior, the newspaper reported.

I think his internet searches are the least of his worries. I am sure the affidavit of probable cause was lengthy. Why the report chose to include that tidbit was to make it appear as though he was plotting some major event even though he was never charged with such. He was charged with ripping people off...

    Exactly.

Tried in the court of public opinion.

This is how the fed puts the proverbial 'hit' on your life when you step out of line.

Other than the fraud, theres no reason why he cant legally own any of those items sans bumpstock. Yet all portrayed as evil illegal mass murder tools.

    School me.
How does one pickup an item, any item, from a dealer without paying for it?
How can you have any cookies if you don't drink your milk?

Sounds like he didn’t pay the sellers, at least the private ones. Sounds like a hard scam to run over and over again especially when the FFL will show it logged into his book then back out after its picked up and transferred.

Right, so the OPs post should have been a slam on the media, not the LE agencies that arrested the guy for fraud.

Sounds like a common eBay scammer here. Maybe used a credit card and contested sales for guns?

Who do you think told the media about his internet search history, and why?

Or maybe it was the spy devices that also make phone calls that we all carry around?
