Waiting for the courts to fix this nationally will take years. It's been 4 years and bump stocks are only ok in some circuits, still no resolution at the SCOTUS level.

My advice to people is to comply, or you are taking the chance of being the very unlucky person who happens to get pinched by this (I found two cases of people charged with bump stock possession out of who knows how many who possess them). I really don't want to be sending money to your gofundme for legal fees, so just follow the rules and be involved in the fight for our rights. You're useless to the community, your family, and yourself if you're behind bars.
Just add the item to your Schedule A before filing. If you're OCD (which may be prudent in this situation), get it notarized. You have until the actual publish date to do that.

I'm going to add a metal spike to the end of my buffer tube, that way it can't be shouldered without dying.

Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms!

Man, that made me laugh. The sad thing is, I bet the ATF genius squad of legal eagles would love to go ahead and point to your oh-so-quotable post right there and say, "Look! Right there, BEFORE the dying part, there's the shouldering part! ILLEGAL! Get 'em boyyyyyyyyz!" If only a wicked sense of humor could stand up as a defense in court. A good number of people around here would be freely toting 20mm Lahti's in the rear windows of their trucks on the way to Wawa/Sheetz, depending on which jurisdiction you live in.

I'm guessing the date is today.
Sorry if already answered in the interim, but does anyone know if the rule has already been published in the Federal Register? I've spend an unholy amount of time reading within that place, but mostly for things from HHS/CMS.

    ----edited to add----

Did some direct searching within the Federal Register, and the most recent items I could find (based solely on containing the term "brace") that were from the BATFE were from June 2021 and December 2020. Nothing more recent than that, at least not BATFE-related. There was some goofy stuff from CDC and others, but not germane to this topic.

Based on what I*ve read, it is expected to be entered into the register this week.

But it can still be shouldered. Just once.
