Slide definitions
This topic could be somewhere else, I searched all over and could not find a true definition.
I can work my way around a firearm pretty well, and am even going through AGI Gunsmithing course. I am in NO way an expert yet, but am learning quickly. Needless to say, they didn't cover this in the videos, probably because its too basic.
I found myself the other day confusing myself as to what the slide face was on a gun? I guess the terminology never stuck?
I just don't see any clear explanation anywhere for these terms. (some of them anyway)
SO why don't the very experienced members teach me (and some other beginners with the same question) where to go to find the info, or explain right here.
Slide face? Breech face? Bolt face? Others?
Thanks!

Re: Slide definitions
The face is always the part with the fireing pin hole.

Slide face (plate): http://incindos.info/arm01/fetchimag...w234t2z3f4g4g4
Breech face: http://filestogo.com/files/1006983/N...tFaceBurr2.jpg
Gun glossary: http://www.thewellarmedwoman.com/wom...s/gun-glossary
I realize the glossary is 'womanized' but it is the best one, IMO. Also, I don't think there is anything called a slide face. It's probably 'slide plate':

Re: Slide definitions
Nice! I'm pretty sure I have heard Bob Dunlap say "slide face" numerous times.

Re: Slide definitions
Slide face is the area with the fireing pin hole. As the bolt face and the breach face. The head of the cartrage case sits on the face. This is also why I cring at calling a bullet a head. It makes a loaded round have two heads. The only two headed thing I now of is a push me pull you. The plate is a fireing pin stop as it stops the pin from comming out. It's not a face even if it has a face, the hammer has a face, it smacks the fireing pin.

Re: Slide definitions
I'm going to assume Slide Face is basically the same area a round would sit on a Bolt Face, except it's a semi-auto pistol slide and not a bolt. You know, where the firing pin pokes through.
Different term for the same area, just a different action.

Re: Slide definitions
To a purist, breechface is the correct answer. However boltface is also valid, but often reserved when there is a specifically designed part called a bolt.
Slideface would of course be the same, but when it is just a slide.
However boltfaces and slidefaces are both breechfaces.

Re: Slide definitions
OK
so for the sake of semi-auto pistols, breech face, bolt face, and slide face are all the same, because it's technically got all three in the same area..
With rifles, breech face and bolt face only exist and they are also the same place..
I think I got it.
