Good website for new shooters?
So, my wife came to me yesterday and said, "okay, I'll shoot with you." You could have floored me. She said he would like to start shooting as soon as the snow melts, but she wants to "read about it first." Anyone have a good line on a website that is very basic for persons interested in shooting? Or, in the alternative a decent book?
Thanks all!
Mike"The rifle is the weapon of democracy. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military. The hired servants of our rulers. Only the government-and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws." (Edward Abbey, "The Right to Arms," Abbey's Road [New York, 1979])

Re: Good website for new shooters?
Being females we usually have a different "mindset" about shooting than men.
Its not as simple for us as it is for men. Women think differently. I would highly recommend this website to start off:
http://corneredcat.com/
I found this site to be extremely informative for woman shooters. It wouldn't be a bad idea for the men to give it a read too.
Handling a gun is not as simple as load, point, fire, well at least for me its wasn't. I would recommend to any female a read through cornered cat.
Women and Guns is an excellent magazine for the experienced or new shooter.
Hope this helps.

Re: Good website for new shooters?
Thanks for all who replied. I will bookmark them and suggest the sites to her.
I did think about this website, but the site and some of the posts gets kind of technical at times, it may be a good start for some people, but I know my wife. She will see the girls and guns threads, and the "big guns" and shut down. She may get here yet.
Its been a long road. When we first started dating 9 years ago, she was totally anti gun. She told me I wouldnt be allowed to have guns in the house. I told her I wouldnt marry her otherwise. She has come around over the years, but, like a lot of people, has been wrongly influenced by the media. When she refers to "big guns" she means an AR 15. Big guns to me are 16 inchers on a battleship. LOL
BTW, my collection is growing strong. She actually bought me a 10/22 for Christmas 2006and a 91/30 and an M44 this past Christmas!

The NRA has some excellent shooting programs for beginers including classes and online information on the basics. Start with hrrp://www.nranews.com and also http://www.nrahq.org/education/train...ictraining.asp.
